COURTESY OF BB - DAILY CHAT 17/09/08Burlesque_Babe wrote: »apple crumble (well, how I make it)
peel apples, pop in pan.
add a couple of ounces of sugar, some raisins (or a dollop of mincemeat if you're like me and still have some left from Christmas!) pop the lid on and very gently cook.
Topping
8 ounces plain flour
4 ounces sugar
6 ounces butter, cubed, room temperature
stir the sugar and flour together. Add a bit of butter at a time and rub it in to create 'crumbs'. Do this bit by bit until all the butter is used and you have lots of crumbs - don't worry if they aren't all uniformly small. I give the bowl a 'knock' and all the big bits come to the top so you can then carry on crumbing them if they are too big in comparison.
Pop crumbs on apples in dish and bake!
Yes, - you can use oats. Just add a couple of handfuls to the mix.
HTH
Alternatively, do what i do and buy a crumble mix..........I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
