Fatpig. I would simply draw your attention to the FSCS statements,
http://www.fscs.org.uk/consumer/how_to_claim/deposits/ not what Alistair D may or may not have said. No I don't believe one of our banks would go to the wall without being bailed out.....But you never know. This government is virtually bankrupt.
Insofar as Politicians words I remember Bill Clinton saying "I never had sexual relations with that woman"
    I trust no politican

Surely you must ackowledge that he did say it ? After all the FT have reported it. Or don't you trust the FT either?

If you're that mistrustful of everyone and everything you may as well hide all your money under the bed.

I am not advocating taking all your money out of B & B. I have the maximum protected level with them. I just think at this particular time it is prudent tp spread your money around. Even if darling did say it, why doesn't the FSCS acknowledge that?. The government are dragging their heels to increase the protection level to 50k!!. Apart from the FT article nowhere does it say if a british bank goes bust you will get every penny of your deposits back

  • 35k is the limit per separate bank so invest the other 15k elsewhere
  • Thx alot guys for your advice on this one, as this is the only saving I have
I think I will reduce the amount with B&B to £35k, just to be on the safe side :)

Why would you expect some woman who works in a B&B branch to have any knowledge on this matter ??

She is there financial addviser, surely she would have some knowledge of financial matters... :)
    Will someone thank me :)

Much as I admire the hard work of bank branch staff, often under ridiculous pressures from the powers that be above, I would think it very unlikely that anybody working for B&B outside the immediate control of the board would know anything beyond about the strength or otherwise of their employer.

It's a bit like asking a car salesman "are these well made?" - he's hardly likely to say "no, they're a bit rattly once you've had them for a few months".
