Im 24 going back to Uni full time doing a degree of 4 yrs. i have lost my job resulted in me losing my home/mortgage i have debt and have decided going back to Uni full time is the best option for the long run. Im really considering going BR . fresh start. i cannot afford my debts as im no longer earning 24k a year and i lost my job thru complications
Uni to me is the only option . Im giving up my life and all im used to to start a fresh and budget is one thing i will learn for Uni. I dont think Bankruptcy effects loans/grants etc. so i have been told anyhow.. i could be wrong. !

I wanna know whether a partner of a mature student can claim income support as we have a 15 months old dependant and v r getting £45/week Child Tax credit. Now is there anyone who is in the same position as us. We have been in heavy debt for some years now and are kinda ignoring and then making arrangements for manageable payments and den kinda breaking agreement as the company debt collectors change so its been a very very bumpy ride for us over the years better still we r way more positive as I know once the degree is completed I can manage to sort some payments and pay all in few years after University. Now at this point in time I am starting my uni on 29th and applied for student loan and tuition fee loan earyl sept I am expecting it to be in November time but want to what my partner can do as she looks after the baby and studies an accounting course at home. I paid for the course when I was working 2 years ago and is due to complete in June 2009. Any help would be a breath of fresh air.
Thanks
Hi
Income support no. Not during the academic year. But during holidays you may get JSA.
You need top make sure you have applied via LEA for adult dependants grant and parents learning allowance. You can also claim 80% childcare which might help your wife study. You will also get a student loan and manitance grant. If you are currently on IS or JSA you will get the special support grant which entitles you to a larger loan that normal.
You will prob have to pay council tax but that will have 25% education. You might get help with rent also via housing benefit. You will get free prescriptions so will your wife.
Regarding the late loan payments then contact uni for help from their access to learning fund.
With regard to the debts please call CCCS and get advice they are fab and there is loads of help on the debt free wanna be bored.
Good luck!Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -

Hi Debt_23,
Your not alone in losing job and house, I lost mine some years ago and a lot more besides. An awful lot of people have mishandled things and made mistakes, however try not to let it knock your confidence too much as at 24 you have got an opportunity to rebuild your life and with this past experience you will be better and stronger for it. There is a thread about bankruptcy and grants/loans on the student board, might be worth looking at. Hope you enjoy uni.0 -
thanks . i hope i do too. BR is stupid at 24 but with Uni and everything else changing in my life i do think it will clear my mind and help me focus more at Uni and study without the worry of all the debt and house. i decided vol repo is the best option. with me going Uni i dont want the agro of my old life. new start i think is best !Bankrupt on 26/03/2009 10:30am No-219 of 2009

Hi all I am 34 and going into my 2nd year teaching degree with £49,000 of debt.
Its tough I have 3 kids i husband, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a mortgage (not included in debt)
I get plenty of funding from student finance and we cope I have set up a DMP and will just do what I can.
Apart from that the whole idea of getting a degree is so that we can have better jobs it doesnt matter that we are skint now one day this will be a distant memory.
Good luck to you all and Happy learning:j0 -
