Help! Need a craft gift for my 8 yr old nephew

I am trying to make most of my christmas gifts this year, and am doing pretty well so far (at least with the list!!!:o ) but I can't for the life of me work out what to make my nephew. I have trawled this site and many others, but boy stuff is hard to find! I'm making his sister a journal jar, but he wouldn't be into that at all, it would be too much like homework!
Any ideas? Pleeeeeaase! Thanks

Hello, lovely to see you here.
Athom, what crafts do you do, knitting, sewing, crochet etc?
It may be easier for us to come up with appropriate suggestions if we know.0 -
Sorry, should have thought of that! I tend to do lots of crafts, like making cards, glass painting, glass etching, etc, and I am fine in the kitchen doing jams, chutneys, chocs etc. I can knit, and cross stitch, but am absolutely rubbish when faced with a crochet hook or proper sewing. Generally, I will try my hand at anything that doesn't require too much sewing!0

Athom the ladies on here have been making cookie ingredients layered in a jar. You'll find lots of help in the gifts in a jar thread.
Then some of the ladies here have made some fantastic cooking hampers for young ones from some lovely cheap bits they found in Tesco. You'll find them in the Finished baskets thread - pages towards the end. You could combine the two and have him over in the holidays to bake with you.
Does he have one of those little DS game things? I thought this was a neat idea. Those pesky little games are easy to lose.

This is plastic canvas - I don't know much about x stitch or plastic canvas but it's a cover for a DS. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=127932.0
Does he like DR Who, I have seen a pattern for a sewn adipose and a knit one, also a knitted dalek and a tardis.
Hope something is helpful, I'll keep thinking.0 -
Hi Athom,
What sort of things does your nephew like doing? Does he like making things, going fishing, or bit of a bookworm etc? It would help to come up with something if we knew a bit about him!!!0 -
Soblivion, thank you so much! That DS games case is amazing, and just the thing for my geeky boyfriend who keeps moaning he loses his games too easily! Oh god, not another item for the crafts list!0

I've made two of my cousions Baking hampers (both boys, one 8 and the other is 9), Also going to put them together a little baking book using the PC and Laminator.
Another Idea from here would be the movie night hamper.
Depends what he like's???

Have thanked you for this. I am making 3 cooking hampers this year one for my 5 year old, and 2 for daughters friends aged 2 and 4 so hadn't thought about a baking book! ThanksRaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
I second the adipose pattern: http://community.livejournal.com/crafty_tardis/89662.html
Have got my mom all the stuff to make one for my 9 year old who is dr who mad - have also asked her to use her creative skills to make a cushion cover & a pillow case cover out of it - oooo, they'd also probably make good bean bags if you make one big enough! You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0 -
Oh Soblivion do you have to put links in for pretty DS games holders ... that would be perfect for my little one!!! ...(must resist!)Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0

I think this is so neat, I don't know if we (UK) have such things as those battery lights but I bought some of these for my kitchen
http://www.jmldirect.com/LED-Spotlights-PL1805/ and wondered if they'd do the job?
They're expensive but they are for 3. Sure you must be able to get cheaper versions.
Sure most boys like bugs don't they? Ewwww.
Ladies check out the christmas nodders too - mmmm where to get bedsprings LOL.0
