PC decides to screw up completely after installing microsoft updates

Options
Just recently on the 9th of September. My PC on windows vista decided to download and install microsoft updates.

then a number of things have decided to go wrong with my PC software.

1. Windows didnt install every update and keeps on trying to install the update every other time by rebooting the computer and claims it has not configured correctly

2. AOL 9.0 has decided not to start up and claims "AOL 9.0 needs to restart your system to install important updates."

3. PC does not have any sound and it says "Audio service is not running." and claims there is no device installed.

4. Windows Explorer doesnt react as quickly as it used to.

5. Windows Restore also fails to work when try to restore system to an earlier date.

6. Windows trys to reactivate as well (even though vista has been on my system for a year ) and claims I have 17 days to activate the system.
When I try to enter the windows product key to gives an 0x8007000D error.

Whats going on with my PC???

  • Possibly an error on the hard drive created during the upgrade or download. try and do the win upgrade in safe mode - press f8 on boot, then try reboot normally. Could come down to fixing the system with the win cd or a total reinstall with the cd but if doing that be sure to back up all your documents pictures etc then get vista totally updated before installing your programs back

  • Trying to install windows updates via safe mode was no use - I couldnt get the control panel working in safe mode to get the windows update menu up. Could be reinstalling again but have no vista disk to reinstall.
