Dell - anyone got caught out by big price reduction once they had ordered

Last night I ordered a lap top from Dell.
Today I receive an e-mail from them advising me that if I order a Dell computer today they will give me a free printer. I checked the dell web site and not only are they giving away a free printer but the price has dropped £48 overnight.
I tried to call this evening but they were closed so send an e-mail off advising I want to cancel my order. But I do not think they will accept a cancellation even though it is with 24 hours. I rang my card issuer but they have already given the ok to Dell.
Has anyone any experience of a similar problem and what was the outcome.

Similar thing happened to me. I emailed asking them to charge me the cheaper price and they advised they couldnt change it once it was ordered. i then asked them to cancel it. this was about 3 days later and i emailed them straight back asking them to cancel it and to confirm it was canceled.
They did this but waited until the day after the cheaper price offer ended to confirm it had been cancelled. I had ordered the cheaper one anyway.
Be persistant dont let them fob you off!
P.s I ordered through small business0 -
Ring them first thing in the morning.
I have done the same as you on one occasion and had no problems at all. Also read lots of posts in the past and never heard of anybody having trouble cancelling and then re-ordering.0 -
I did ring Dell and they claim not to have received my cancellation e-mail and goods were passed to carrier today. I sent 2 cancellation e-mails. I have now sent 5 e-mails in total with no reply and been transferred to voice-mail when I try to talk to someone senior.
Does anyone have any contacts at Dell.0 -
Just one point of thought.
How would you have felt if the price had been increased by £48 overnight?
You obviously thought that they had a good price for you to order in the first place. It's swings and roundabouts, some you win some you lose surely?0 -
You trying to confuse me by posting the thread twice?

I thought I was going nuts as I could've sworn there were more responses the last time I looked! :rotfl:
I agree with ejones. I can't see why you are blaming Dell. Would you rather companies never reduced any of their prices so that this would never happen?
Because that is the only logical conclusion of your complaint. 0 -

Distance selling regulations allow you to return the item within 14days and get a refund anyway.
I'd look at purchases from an investment point of view. When making the purchase you weighed up the usage you're likely to get out of this item and compared it to the likelihood the item will decrease in value during that time.
I have just purchased a 26" tele from dell. With quidco the price came to about £345.
These are currently selling on ebay for £450.
I only plan on using this television for the next six months so it's a wise investment as I'm effectively with a little risk and a little hastle I'm grabbing the opportunity to watch this TV for six months or so. Even if the TV is only £300 in six months time I've still got all that viewing for £40.
Well, providing the house doesn't burn down!
It also teaches you to keep good care of your property,
a six month warranty will devalue it sure but scratches etc moreso. 0
