All my company closures have been planned/paid except one.

    Cleaned up.

    Company I worked for closed.

Instead of salary I took home an Amstrad PC1512 computer. I had that for about 8 years!

Oh happy days. Next job paid £6k.... but I'll save that story for another appropriate time. That one's about sexism and undelivered promises :)

I wonder if they are still trading now (the rip off guys) ? Did the original company ever get going again with a new idea?

In my sector, all the really uncreative, philistine types make a fortune.

Clothing and copies is a nightmare too....the copyright rules are terrible....though some new EU legislation seems to making a bit of an impact (I should know more about it really). If the French fashion people get their way, at some point in the future, the whole thing will change.

A piece of my original work (that is, not plagiarised from another source, but one made up from my head) is currently on sale in a well known High St store. Same store has another reference of mine too in another style (but, guttingly, did it better than me).
Am in the process of getting together a 'letter of action' but don't hold out much hope.
David (poor) and Goliath (rich) type battle really.

A nice, shiny new job will appear when you least expect it, PN. Any IT opportunities in any recycling companies? They will do OK over the next decade I think.

DH did some work on this in Milan. I'll try and jog his memory about it at the weekend. If you are interested in the legislation I can try to get him to give me an in a nutshell version.

No. They were a couple of two-bit chancers, like all people who do this sort of thing are.

I saw this in another company I was made redundant from when a rogue employee tried to set up an identical company and steal the (one large) client list.

That one (1997) ended up with death threats and the police and him arrested and officially diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic though (part of the reason I had to disappear off to the end of nowhere, apart from the fact the company shut down)

I'm really good at this job picking lark!

I don't know. It was 26 miles away from where I lived and my next job was 10 miles in the opposite direction. The owner immediately went off IT contracting/programming and gave up the lease on the building. No idea.

Awww. I always think clothes all look so alike really. I've no eye for clothes/fashion/hair/makeup and other girly fripperies :)

No idea. I'd not be qualified for anything to do with recycling. I've only just got to grips with chucking packaging and coke cans into the plastic bin and remembering to put it out on the right night!

My only experience of a recycling place was a bunch of council employees stood around a dozen skips at a public tip. No sign of IT there.

I found it upsetting, as well.
I found it very upsetting as well. I do wonder why some of the people did take on more debt when they were struggling before anyway as common sence would surely make you see that if you found it difficult before a bigger debt would be much worse. However I also see that it can be difficult to say no when it seems like a good choice at the time if you need the money for X, Y and Z.

I'm an agency worker and we go through times of no work around, non garenteed hours, can be fired with very little notice etc and this I'm sure is making it worse. I've had no work for 3 weeks as some of you know and it is difficult as I have no money coming in, very little as back up (one months keep with enough money to get something for my parents 30th aniversiry) and I do miss working as well. I am looking for other work and have been since I started agency work but it is very difficult.

I feel for the elderly and I worry about my grandma and how she is going to find it in the coming months as it is getting colder etc now :(. She has it easier than some as well as she has her house paid for so I hate to think what some other elderly people will have it like :( .

I'm even worried about my parents even though my dad has a seemingly secure job that is well paid to be honest. He has to pay for the mortgage aswell as putting my nan through a nursing home as she doesn't quilify for government funding  . She has dementia and as my ma has severe depression it isn't possible to have my nan here as that could send my ma over the edge.

It's becoming more and more of a worry. I swear my dad is ill at the moment about the worry of how he is going to pay for everything. It does all make me more determind to find work so I can tell them both "here is some money, I hope it helps." They won't take more than we have agreed willingly if this happens but they are doing me such a big favour in letting me come back here back in April that I do not care. It looks like it is going to get worse as this goes on and not better for a long while which isn't very comforting.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Class, I hope you paid your mates as well.

Sorry, only just seen this. I was the last one left - but, the owner told me first before he laid off the two young guys who worked (hard) for him. So not only did I call them to tell them they were being given notice just before the end of the month, but I made sure they were paid in full including holiday pay they were owed.

The owner still does the exactly the same job, but the new company he started has a different title and it's only him alone there now.

The boss I have now I hate. He changes my days/hours/job without any notice. We get no break of any kind (even if we do a 7 or 8 hour shift), but at the moment I am just glad to have the extra income. We can live on DH's income alone, but I am trying hard to put money away just in case. It just feels like I am the only person I know worried about where everything is heading, everyone else we know is still spending every penny on 'stuff' without seeming to care.
