Hi everyone, i am having a bit of a worrying/angry/unsure/scared/upset/confused moment. And i have a huge knot in my stomach as i write this. So please im just after a bit of outside advice to see if im being level headed about this.
Basically my 2 year old has come home and has little tiny blood stains in her undies. At first i didnt pay any attention as i actually thought it was poo marks from not wiping her bottom properly. Just a little while ago i changed her ready for bed and put her in her night-time nappy. A little while after she went for a number one on her potty and needed help pulling the nappy back up - then i noticed more marks in the fresh nappy (very concerned) so i have checked her out and there is blood present!!!! No sign of a cut - now im really concerned but i dont know if im just being silly. For the past couple of weeks she constantly has her hands down her undies fiddling which we keep telling her not to (but i know this is perfectly normal as its somewhere previously covered by a nappy). Now she has been saying 'Mini hurt' alot whenever we change a nappy (mornings only as she is potty trained at day). I just asumed this was due to her fiddling. But on closer inspection there is no cut/scratch now.
She also constantly wants to be clotheless waist down, i had previously asked that this be discouraged at the childminders but she could run around in knickers and shorts so its easier to use the potty.
Im just really concerned now - i hope what im saying is understandable (i suppose i dont want to say it outright as it makes me angry to think like that) - so apart from the running around naked and the saying she is hurting i have no other reason to be suspicious - but then again i also know that is enough to be concerned. For fear of the worst i dont want to send her in tomorrow
but i know i have to think seriously about this and not act too OTT incase its nothing.
She is a little young to honestly reply to any questioning - plus i dont want to put anything in her mind as she (as toddlers do) tend to repeat all the wrong things, lol!
Please help!!!

Don't panic.
It is almost certainly a UTI which has travelled up and become a kidney infection. VERY COMMON in little girls, especially if they're potty training.
See your doctor ASAP because it can't be nice for her - probably uncomfortable and that's why she's fiddling.0 -
Where has she been and who with?
It is natural for children to not want any clothes on so please do not worry about this - and they all fiddle too. Is it possible she has taken something (contraceptive pills will cause a bleed)?
If you are worried I would certainly give NHS direct a call and tell them as she could have a water infection - if she has been fiddling she could have popped something inside and you will not be able to see. Call NHS Direct for your own peace of mind if nothing else.0 -
Please dont panic ,could be any thing.
But can understand your concerns.
Could she have put any thing "up there "
or what about pin worms.
For your own peace of mind i would take her to docs
Best wishes

Hi m-g-e-b,
I can imagine what a worry it must be for you. I think you may need to get to see your GP just to get your little girl checked out. I know there are occasions when girls can have a show of blood like a period, or even start their periods at an unbelievably young age, so to check this out first would be my advice here.
Is there any chance your little girl could have 'put' anything inside here 'mini' to scratch or graze it? Are her fingernails cut short? I know my neice was forever having a rummage down there at her age, and a friend's little sister decided to put her marbles in there!!
Is there any way you can ask your daughter why she thinks her 'mini' might be sore? I know how hard it can be to get a sensible conversation out of a toddler, so appreciate it might not be very accurate.
After having her medically examined, I would then follow their lead, and consider having the discussion with the childminder about the fact that your daughter is bleeding, and do they have an explanation for it?
I know this won't exactly allay your fears, but at least you can formulate a plan of action for dealing with this situation. I would err on the side of caution, whilst anticipating it is probably more a case of her having caused a bit of disruption down there herself. Another thing I thought of was a possible water infection like cystitis, especially as she's potty training. I used to 'hold' my wee in too long, not wanting to go to the loo, and gave myself repeated bouts of cystitis and water infections as a little girl. It did make me quite sore, and felt a bit poorly too.
Have a (((hug))) too, and let us know how you get on.

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
Thank you for your responses, she is only ever at home with me or at childminders when im at work. I will def get on the phone once she is in bed. I think as a parent sometimes you need some outside advice as first thought that there is any possibilty someone is hurting your child you panic!!!
While she is here there is nothing she could have taken. Pills are all locked away and i dont use the pill. At childminders i am not so sure - she is registered and regularly boasts at her spot checks for safety so im sure not. She doesnt have a problem weeing - but i will do dr's asap!Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
Are you sure it is coming from the front, if you see what I mean? Is she constipated, because straining can cause a little bit of bleeding from the back passage.
Is there fresh blood in her urine (ie mixed in, or is it smears on the nappy)? She needs checking for a UTI at least.
Take her to the doctors tomorrow, then they can decide what is the matter, try not to jump to conclusions.
(PS don't worry about the nakedness thing, it is normal!)0 -
Please don't panic. My daughter had those signs from about the age of 3 and started her periods at aged 7. Go to the GP xx0

Personally I wouldn't bother with NHS direct for a non emergency, I think the experienced advice you've received on here is better.
This is for a GP to check her over and I am sure it will be something along the lines of a UTI or hormonal perhaps. remember many girl babies can have a mini period when born.
Hope everything goes well and do keep us updated. Selfishly it would stop me worrying if my daughter gets anything similar. x0 -
I was also going to add, if you have a sterile bottle take some morning wee with you to the docs so it can be tested, it's a loooooooooooong wait when a toddler has to give a sample!!0
