Hi
Can anyone shed some light on this please.
I will be getting married soon and moving into mq with htb. I own my house in UK and intend on keeping this house once we move into mq. Just wondering, do I need to pay council tax on the house, if I wont be living in it. Obviously there are others out there who must own a house back home....Did you let it out or just leave it empty?
Any help appreciated.

Hi there
We rent our property out, so the tennant pays the council tax..just let the council know what is happening and they will then address the bill to the tennant.. our house was empty for a few months when we first got it and I think You can pay no CT for 6 months if the house is empty -but just to be safe -double check that bit when you ring up the council-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
thanks, I am a bit weary about letting the house out, as pretty much everything is brand new. i would consider leaving the house empty, but continue to pay mortgage, seems a bit silly I know. but say if the house was going to be empty permenantly, do you know if you need to pay any council tax at all?
thanks0 -
If you are going to leave it empty, check that your buildings insurance will cover it, often they have exclusions that if it's empty for a certain period, it will not be covered.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
I think you are able to not pay council tax on an empty unfurnished property for up to 6 months after that you will have to pay . Also as said before you will have to check both your building and contents insurance as they state the house should not be empty for more then 3 months. HTH
Have always let our property but months in between have not paid council tax but they do always state is the property unfurnished0 -
Hi there
I think I would be more scared of leaving a house empty  ... Have visions of squatters, not to mention damp from being closed up ..
If you put it through a letting agent and get a decent bond, and get the letting agent to do regular checks that everything is being looked after the risk is less than say trying to let it yourself
hope when you are married you are going to be moving somewhere nice-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
