Hi everyone,
I have a D40 and it has just started to not work. When i say not work i mean it has stopped showing as charged on the screen you see looking through when taking a picture, however it shows as fully charged on the screen at the back. I have tried a different battery and have recieved the same results.
We are currently on holiday in Florida from the Uk and so i really would like some advice or opinions on what to do next. Is this problem fixable or should we bite the bullet and purchase a new body. If i am to purchase a new body, would i be better moving up a level as i hope to become a little more involved with my photography at some point soon. i have already purchased extra lenses for this camera so would want to stick with a nikon if i do have to purchase another one.

Thanks for the response.
I think that i will contact them when i get home, i just wondered if anyone had any actual knowledge of this themselves.
I need to have a camera as we are on holiday, i just did not know if this is fixable. i am going to head to a camera shop here now and hope for the best.0 -
i'm confused to actually what the problem is..
when you look through the viewfinder, you can't actually see any icons etc? is it turned on, have you changed a menu setting.. have you tried doing a full reset (yes, it is still a computer, and there is a way to reset it all fully back to factory settings)
do a quick google on how to reset a D40, and i'm sure you'll come up with something.... or maybe just bite the bullet and buy a new camera... you know you want to!

We had a camera repaired by nikon and they were very efficient. All the details are on the website. They will inspect the camera and let you know how much it will be before starting the repair. This investigation costs a flat fee detailed on the website, I think its about £7. They send emails at every stage. If you don't want the repair they will send the camera back.0

It was me being a total plank. It was not the camera body that was actually the problem, but the new lense i purchased 2 months ago.
I have bought a replacement and will get that one fixed when we return home.
Its mad that i never once thought to check a different lense, yet did the battery checks even though i could see it was charged.
Was very tempted to buy a whole new camera, if it had been the body i think it likely i would have had more than a passing glance at the D90.
Thanks for the replies though, much appreciated.0
