I've just about decided to open a A&L Premiere Direct current account and the linked 10% regular saver account. I'd also like to make sure I use the refer a friend method where we both get £50 each.

AIUI the 10% regular saver is only available until the end of this month - is that correct?

If I apply online, say, on the 30th November will I be able to get the 10% account? (presumably there will be a lag of several days where forms are sent back and forth in the post before the accounts are actually opened which will probably be well into December).

If I apply online for the current account, where do I indicate that I want the 10% savings account aswell - is this a tick box during the current account application?

There seems to be a conflict of info on a couple of Martin's articles about the current account - one says you have to pay in £1000 per month min and the other says £500 per month min. Which is correct?

As regards the refer-a-friend, you download their PDF claim form, both sign it and send it to A&L in the post. But does this have to be done *before* opening the account? Can I just open the account now and process the refer-a-friend form later on?

I've just received the welcome pack and cheque book. There's a refer a friend form in the welcome pack.

As far as I remember, the savings account option comes up on the online application - can't remember whether you have to opt in or out but I think you opt in same as the credit card option.

The minimum payment is £500 a month. I wouldnt hold out for the referral money though. Its been at least 8 weeks since I sent my form off and still nothing.

IIRC the Ts & Cs say you have to wait till 8 weeks after the account is funded.

I've just opened the above. The regular savings is an option you tick. I've got a letter with the welcome pack saying that my regular savings account will start in January. I assume that making payments into it will be done via the internet account once it's running.

How long does it take to get the Internet banking log in numbers, in order to see the account to go on line? I've had the various pins and bits of plastic for current, credit accounts and have opened the reg. saver too.

Hi Mary, this week I have received everything apart from Internet pin code - the ID arrived this morning. In fact, it's all come through very quickly.

The stuff all comes through at different stages with the account but usually in pretty good time. I have received one lot of £50 from myself being "recommended" and this came through pretty quick. The t and c says allow UP TO 8 weeks and I would guess that this period starts from when the account is credited with the £500pm. I'm still waiting on other £50 payments from having opened accounts for my mum, dad, girlfriend and one mate! In effect you can just keep £500 moving in and out of various accounts and keep them happy.

With regards the overdraft matching facility, a word of caution. After having sent various bank statements off about 3 times, receiving pretty poor customer service along the way (at one point they told me they had misplaced my statements and it would take a lot of time to dig them out, so could i do the whole thing again! Cause obviously their time is more important than mine!)I was informed that this is only for people who switch all their payments (ie wage, bills etc) to the account. Not blaggers like us then who want the money for ISAs and arms dealing!

have any savvy members not yet taken advantage of the refer a friend option ?
I'm sure it would be possible to do it between us; all the form needs is our names and relevant account numbers - no signatures.
