Right, i wish to conenct my PC to TV to watch movies and so on from my pc. Ideally i wish to have good quality video, and audio player through my theater system.
Here are my specs:
PC:
Video: nVidia 8800gt (dual DVIi and hd tv connector addapter with s-video and HD phono)
TV:
Philips 37" HD ready (DVI and DVI audio imputs, scart, common interface slot, SPDIF socket and S-video.)
Surround Sound:
Sony DVD recorder Home Theatre System. DAR-RD100.
What would be the best option for connecting the audio? I wish to have the audo run through the surround sound system.
Cheers MSErs

We need to know what kind of sound card / outputs your computer has.
Ideally, you'll say SPDIF, which your Sony home theatre will have an input forThen it'd just be a case of buying the right cable, and you'd have 5.1 surround sound where supported.
If not, you'll have a standard 3.5mm audio jack on the PC, and you'll have to buy a 3.5mm stereo to L/R RCA lead, to plug into the RCA audio inputs on the home theatre.
Let us know what sound card you have first.,Russia is HERE0 -
haha whoops. Im using onboard soundcard from my Abit IP35 mobo. Just had a look, i do have an SPDIF. Didn't realise that was optical connection haha. The only optical i see on the theatre system (built on dvd combo thing) is a digital out and goes to the sub. In fact the only imputs i see on the system is L/R audio and video phono.
So i guess the only way would be 3.5mm jack > phono?0 -
There'll be a digital co-axial input on the home theatre, yes?
You can get optical to coaxial digital audio convertors, like this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Digital-Optical-to-Coaxial-Converter-Adaptor-Box-NEW_W0QQitemZ230292400656QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item230292400656&_trkparms=72:12|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
So all you would need would be something like this and a digital coaxial cable.Russia is HERE0 -
Nope. All there is on the theatre is L/R phono(rca) for audio. So i will have to go 3.5mm jack > phono i think.
On a side note, how about for video: PC > componant > DVI > TV. I then shouldnt loose as much quality than what i would with s video.0
