Organ donor register

We have recently had it brought home to us just how vital this service is.

Friends of ours in the USA have 3 grandsons. The eldest is in the US Marines. Recently his patrol vehicle hit a roadside bomb in northern Iraq. He took shrapnel all down one side including one eye.

Just a few days ago he underwent another 9 hours of surgery to remove shrapnel. He's had a corneal transplant from a donor - the 18-year old donor was killed.

I have just renewed my registration as an organ donor. It's only when something happens to someone that you know, that it comes home to you. Without the corneal donor our friends' grandson would likely have remained blind in that eye.

Please, everyone, register as an organ donor! It might be someone near and dear to you next....

  • My heart goes out to your friends Grandson and I hope he make a full recovery.

I am registered as a Organ donator and I have drilled it into my Husband that this is my wish...as your NOK has the final say.

My husband and I are on there too and have been for years. A friend died 7 years ago at the age of 27 whilst waiting for a transplant

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Been on the donor list and the marrow donor list for 8 years. Giving blood as often as I can too!!

I'm gonna be furious if I need something doing but cannot find a donor after the amount of fluids & other mushy bits I've been giving!

I'm not allowed to give blood anymore due the fact that I had a transfusion 10 years ago. This is because of the risk of CJD. It is sooooo annoying. I've never eaten meat in my life so am hardly likely to have contracted it. I want to help others but not allowed. I was also taken off the bone marrow donor list because of a back injury-now surely if I'm happy to do it then why should I be stopped.

Back to the thread, they can have any bit of me when I'm gone and OH knows this too. If he doesn't let them, I'll haunt him more than I do now!
    I haven't got one!
