Knock Airport Development Fee

Options
I have just returned from from a holiday out in Ireland, we flew out of Knock Airport.
After checking in and before entering security I was informed I would have to pay a 10 euro "Development Fee".

Can they do this, is it legal? Does anyone know how to get it back?

The principle of it is what has got my back up, they know damn well your not going to refuse to fly on the day.

Loads of airports have done it at one time or another. I guess Ryanair pay virtually zero or may even receive a subsidy to fly into Knock and as such may not pay much towards airport costs.

I am a frequent flyer to Knock due to having family there.

I don't mind the Development fee, but for a usual family of 4 (all over the age of 12) for a weeked cost on average about 240.00 the a further £8 each in card fees, so thats another £270ish. After getting to the airtport, car rental, and all the other bits and bobs, you won't be in the most forgiving mood to pay an extra 40 euro.

I do understand the developmental fee but I think it should be alot more flexable. For instance 10 euro per family. It's more reasonable for the average working class family.

Especially as Ryanair do pay Knock to land and fly from the airport, which is then hidden in the taxes and charges.

In conclusion the average family are having to pay alot more then they should.
  • I looked on the airport website today and 10 euro is still charged .. irelandwestairport.com/airportguide/airportfees.aspx
