Have tv with freeview built in but want to be able to record. Do I get a dvd recorder with hard drive or a freeview box with hard drive so I can watch one and record another. Any advice would be welcome

I personally dont see any point in dvd recorders unless you want to KEEP the recordings. Id suggest freeview with a hard drive built in.
HOWEVER, the quality probably wont be as good as the inbuilt one if connected via scart cable. So if your REALLY bothered about quality, i'd try and find one with HDMI (If your tv has a spare hdmi input):idea:0 -
Possibly a DVD recorder with a hard drive and a digital tuner.
I have Sky+ and use a DVD recorder rarely if I really want to keep something. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
