Rental help, garantor not accepted..

Hey Guys,
I posted a few weeks back stating that I have just filled in an application for a rental agreement and used my best friend as a garantor (as my neither of my parents are financially secure) but my friend is moving to Austraila on a job transfer with the police in march.

To cut a long story short, the agency has said I cant use him and if I cant find another garantor the only other option is to provide 6 months rent in advance.

I don't have the money to pay 6 months rent in advance (who does??) and I cant think of anyone else who could be my garantor. I did suggest that I would purchase Rent Insurance so that the estate agents would be covered but was told that "unless you can supply a suitbale garantor, this method won't be accepted".

I've tried looking for a short-term 6 month loan but can't seem to find any.
Anyone got any suggestions on this?

Cheers
Darren

If you friend was prepared to act as guarantor through the term of the tenancy then maybe borrowing the money from them, if available, might be a way forward and pay them back monthly over six months. Surely if they trust you enough to act as guarantor for you then you must also stand good for their loan!

    Worth a try.

I would suggest that your friend in the police force is now undecided on emigrating.;)

Why would you even mention something not happening til next year? They would only credit check a guarantor now, once the forms are completed, no-one looks at a guarantor again (unless the rent is not paid).

  • I suggest you rent directly from a landlord and not through an agency.

Only a cad borrows money from a friend, don't do it.

    Hey Guys,
    @ notlob - great idea!
@silvercar - we had to mention it as the form states you must declare any changes in cirumstances
@bristol_pilot - not an option as its a new build apartment and the builders have given all the rental properties to a specific agency...sadly!

i ended up asking my dad (who I dont really seak to, long story) who loaned me the money and i'll pay him back over the 6months. So fingers crossed this Saturday and i'll have it in writting that its mine! :) YEY

    Cheers again guys,
    Darren
