  • Has anyone ever wondered where they get these cheap goods from? I wonder too, hence the question. They dont just sell "end-of-line", surplus, near-expiry, or export stock. Some items are on permanent bargain .. eg. 100 teabags for about 50% of Tesco's price ... Galaxy cake bars, etc.. similar amount cheaper. All UK stock and not near expiry. If Tesco, Asda has so much more buying power, how come they cannot sell these items cheaper?

I also read an article in the Mail or Express on Saturday about fake goods ... not just DVDs or watches, but also foodstuff like chocolate and teabags. I am not accusing HB of selling fakes, but the thought did cross my mind, although I do feel that is highly unlikely as the good are always of original quality ... it would be difficult to fake Pringles , Coke, cadburys, etc .. without it tasting inferior.
  • Alot of their stuff comes from either end-of-line, near-expiry or simply bankrupt stock. I would hazard a guess that some items are there as 'loss leaders' aswell - meaning they probably get them from the same place as Tesco etc, but sell them at cost price to get people through the door on a regular basis. For example, there is one item that I go there for every week, if it wasn't for that one item then I might not go in every week - I don't think I have ever gone in and come out with less than a basket full though.

Many of the toiletries are imports too - first that springs to mind is their colgate toothpase, which has Arabic packaging. Same product, made at the same place - but presumably colgate have had an over-order or something along those lines.

Texas Hold'em game thing where each person has a controller with an LCD screen showing your cards and it plugs into the TV that displays the Table (up to 8 players I think) approx £5.99 per person.
