Fix Google Chrome Scrolling with a patch

Options
I recently downloaded Google Chrome and found it to be quite interesting - fast, with a clever UI and security "model". There have apparently been some major issues with it, but I have not really encountered any of them....except one!

It's practically unusable on my system (laptop) as you cannot scroll up using the mouse pad!

Luckily, I worked out how to fix Google Chrome's scrolling bug (where you cannot scroll up using certain mouse pads), and hopefully I will not be the only one who benefits.

I have released a patch to quickly fix the issue (until Chrome is fixed officially). Just run chrome_patch.exe. It will patch chrome.dll to fix the issue.
You can download/read about it at http://digg.com/software/Google_Chrome_68

lol :p Yep guess so! The problem comes down to Google Chrome (or the underlying libraries) setting incorrect information about the scroll bars - it appears that the scroll bar is always at the top position. Some mouse software (which runs in the background or tray) uses this information and will not send scroll up events to Google Chrome. The most common culprit in this case seems to be Synaptic's Touchpads.

So I guess you probably don't use one of those ;)

I'd love to hear more - any problems so I could fix them and more confirmations that it works. (it would also be great for people to digg it if they have an account so that more people are aware of it...cheers!)

I'd love to hear more of whether the patch worked for you, whether you know of any people who are affected by this...what hardware you use...if you use Chrome...whether you had no need to download the patch because you are not affected by the issue.

    Cheers!

Thanks, I gave up on Chrome because of the scroll bug.

At least now I can actually give it a proper try-out now.

Some people do have problems with the normal installer (which attempts to download and install Chrome on its own).
You can try the full, offline installer here:

    http://dl.google.com/chrome/install/149.30/chrome_installer.exe

(of course, only trust the offline installers that come from *.google.com)
