http://www.energywatch.org.uk/help_and_advice/free_services/index.asp

This gives you details, having worked for one of the biggest energy companies I can say that this is worth signing up for and alot of pensioners/disabled etc are still not aware of this, they will recieve freebies similar to but may vary; FREE annual gas safety check, carbon monoxide alarm (do ask thier suppliers as they don't advertise this but it is available), free energy saving bulb and other devices which would help them). There is alot more with this and is worth a call to thier individual supplier to get more info!!

Thanks for this! I'm helping an elderly disabled neighbour sort her utilities and this - as well as what Which? say - will be very helpful indeed.

As my partner is disabled we joined a scheme mentioned on the utilities board to get a reduction in our gas and electric as we spend more than 10% of our income on fuel. I asked at the time about moving the pre payment meters from the awkward cupboard under the stairs to a more convienent place but was told this could not be done due to there being able bodied persons in the house that can access them.
