Problem switching to BG Click 5??

I have tried a number of times to switch suppliers to British Gas Click 5 via QUIDCO in the last few days and keep getting "A System Error has occured. Please try again" message when I click the submit button on the final page.
Anyone else get this?

I have used the contact us page on the british gas website and got a response saying 'we will get back to you in 5 days'.....you have to ask whether they really want the business???? But they are cheapest for gas at the moment and as we are coming in to the cold months with the heating on I thought I would switch.

Any help welcomed. Cheers

  • As far as I'm aware the Click Energy 5 tariff has been withdrawn from switching sites for a couple of weeks. This is maybe why you are experiencing the 3rd party site issues.

The Click Energy 5 tariff is still avaialble directly from British Gas, however there is currently a fault with the online application process via the https://www.britishgas.co.uk website. If you call the website team on the free phone number they are manually processing the sales, or tariff changes at present.

Website enquiries are also running a few 1000 behind target which is causing the delay in responding to your message.
  • You could always switch to the standard tariff (spit, lol) through Quidco, then ring them and request you be transferred to Click 5. Don't think this would affect your chances of getting the cashback. Tip: If you do this, DO make a diary note to ring them or you will be paying a LOT for your gas and electricity, lol.

PS Just checked and it's only £20 for a dual fuel switch, down from £60. Very disappointing. Cashbackkings are quoting £40.

If NPower are anything to go by this wont be possible. I asked them to move me from the standard rate to their online rate after I moved in to my house as I was just moved on to the old owners tariff and they refused. Their suggestion was to move to another supplier for 28 days and then move back to NPower on the online tariff.....madness....how many businesses do you know that tell you you can pay a lower price only if you shop with a competitor for 28 days!!!!
  • I am with British Gas at the minute and it turns out after doing a compairson that they will be cheaper for me on the Click Engergy 5 tariff. So, I am attempting to apply online and it is telling me that my postcode is invalid!?! Tried calling them and have so far been on the phone for 17minutes and still haven't spoken to anybody!
A tip for anybody calling, there is a freephone number: 0800 048 0202 so it should save you a few pence :D.

There's also a Leeds number 0113 3381022. Handy if you're ringing on your mobile (0800 numbers are charged on most mobile calling plans nowadays).

I switched via the BG site yesterday (sunday).
It worked fine and I got a confirmation.
  • I have twice tried to apply for this tariff; each time BG respond with "we are unable to locate your online application for our Click Energy 5". The system sending you an acknowledgement email doesn't seem to mean anything.

It will be interesting to see if they honour all the cashback points I've racked up with both applications. Otherwise I think I'll give up trying to switch and stick with Scottishpower.

  • I applied for this via the BG website at the start of September. All the comparison sites seemed to indicate it was impossible to apply by referral at that point, so I had to go direct (although I didn't check quidco!)

Anyway, even having applied via their site, when I got a phonecall from them confirming my details they didn't seem aware that I was applying for Click 5, as opposed to their standard tariff.

So I guess you could easily apply for the standard tariff and then tell them it was a Click 5 application when contacted.

Having said that, my father decided to switch last week and couldn't get the form on their own website to work and eventually had to do the application by phone.
  • I have just completed the switch by phone.
Apparantly I have to set the tarrif to online click 5 when i get the confirmation email from them.
You would think that they would make sure their online application worked perfectly as they appear to be in the middle of a huge tv and radio ad campaign!

Apart from a banner on their website I've never seen one BG ad for Click 5. I think it's 'sort of' a loss leader for their more savvy customers and something to offer ones who say they are leaving.
