Firefox opening pages when using IE

Options
For months I've quite happily used both Firefox (v 3.0.1) & IE (v 6.0 sp2) - mainly Firefox but less often IE for the sites Firefox wont work with. OS is XP

Lately Firefox has taken over IE to the extent that I can't use it. IE opens on my normal homepage but when trying to navigate to another site either by clicking on a recently visited address or typing a new one in Firefox then opens that page.

I've a feeling it might be something to do with my Comodo firewall and have also looked at also looked at Set Program Access & Defaults in Control Panel altering the default web browser.

Any help would be appreciated

I can't understand why you would every use IE6. Simply set FF3 as your default browser, install IETab here and IE is then totality redundant.

A couple of sites I use to submit info on don't work with Firefox and a couple of others don't show clearly readable pages. Thanks for the advice.

Whilst I agree with espresso on IE's redundancy and FF superiority, I would suggest upgrading to IE 7 first then trying to address this issue.

Alternatively I have found the new Google Chrome browser to be excellent and once a fixed version is available I whole heartedly recommend it.

So Update, check and let us know if you still have problems.

You shoud, at the very least, update to IE7 from here, IE6 is poor on security.

Pretty strange that if you type an address in the IE bar, it tries to open with Firefox.

Try installing IE 7 and see how you get on. Personally I always use Firefox.

There is no point installing IE7 when FF3 with IEtab for use when necessary, is far superior in every respect!

Doesn't IE tab fire up an IE process to run it in a FF tab? Surely you need IE installed for this purpose?

You definitely still should upgrade to IE7 - regardless, v6 is a mess.

Not sure, I though that it just used the IE rendering engine in an FF tab. What sites don't work with FF anyway?

Not sure as I don't have an issue myself... One way or another, it has to use the code from IE to render the page in a tab though...

I use IE very rarely, usually just to test site designs work ok. FF has been my default browser since early versions.

Installing IE7 upgrades the rendering engine to the one used by IE7. Definately upgrade, but still use IETab.

Any that use ActiveX, such as eWise and the other sites that use eWise's software, (like Egg's money manager.)

    I thought as much.

Anyone with a reasonably modern system should upgrade from IE 6 to IE7, whether they use it on not IMO.
