"My Documents" folder on D: and also on C: drive?

Options
Hi I wonder if anyone could advise me on this.
My hard drive has always been partitioned into a C: and D: drive.
My documents have always been on D:, however a while ago my C: drive was getting full, and the D: had loads of space,so I got a techie guy in to try and jiggle my partitions about. He tried to get rid of the partitions completely and put everything on C:, however this was unsuccessful but he managed to give me more space on C:
I have just noticed however (after running SpaceMonger), that in the Documents and Settings folder on C:, I also have a My Documents folder which is taking up quite a bit of disk space.
Looking at the content of this folder, nothing has been modified or added since May which is about the time we tried to repartition the disks.
Am I safe to delete this My Documents folder from the C: drive? (I will back up my D: drive documents folder to an external hard drive first).
I wanted to ask first before I go on a deleting frenzy, I have tried deleting a couple of itunes downloaded TV shows to test it and they are still on my D: drive, so it looks like it might be ok.
My program files pull documents from my D: drive (sims 2 etc).
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

My Documents (on your desktop) is a shortcut, usually linked to: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents

If you right click your My Documents on the desktop and choose properties it'll tell you the location.

I suggest you decide where you want you documents folder, move everything into the correct one, check the location (as above), before you delete any parent folder.
  • Yes the location if I right click is definately D:/My Documents as its always been.
I think the one I have on C is just a result of trying to move everything onto C. If I download anything it automatically goes to D too.

Then if you are happy with the D location, just go through all the docs in the C folder and move anything you need into the D my docs folder, bin everything you don't need, until the one on C is empty. Then you'll have a correct full set on D, and an empty documents on C.

Only delete the files out of C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents but don't delete the My Documents folder, as some applications will look for this specific location.
