There is a planned BG Price Rise for February 09....

I know there are some other threads on here about BG price rises but we are swithcing to SP and have not capped. On Friday I had to ring BG and give my reading and got the usual 'why are you leaving....' etc. Anyway, the guy said 'have you capped' and I said no and said that we had saved money by not capping and switching but then said that 'we would not be saving money come February when prices went up again'. You could hear how smug he was being about it. Glad to be leaving BG, thank you!!

So unless they are telling lies and trying to get me to cap (because they keep on saying 'it's not too late, stay with us and cap until 2011') it seems there is another planned increase for Feb.

So much for it going on the price of Oil, how can they tell what the price is going to be in February in September?

I just thought I would mention.

I think it was just sales talk.BG wouldn't know what they are doing next week let alone next February.

Well, that is there but I wanted to make people aware what I was told.

Are they allowed to do this though? Can you complain to anyone?

I'm assuming you weren't given/ didn't ask for the full name of the person who phoned? AFAIA all calls are recorded though not all calls are actively monitored, of course. I'm sure the Team manager in BGs Cold Calling Dept (I'm sure they don't call it this, btw! Retentions?) could trace the call from the time it was made and therefore identify the member of staff. I think if he really DID say 'come February when prices will go up again' he is potentially guilty of misleading info. If he said MAY or MIGHT, though, I'm sure your case would be weakened.

Ring and ask to speak to the Team Manager in the relevant dept and ask him to have a listen to the conversation that will/should have been recorded and take it from there would be my advice.

No, he definately said 'when'. This is why I said they already have prices rises planned. I was given a number to call as we was closing the account (retentions?) and it went straight through, no menu or anything, which struck me as odd, but after I said I was saving through having not capped he said 'when prices go up in February'.

The number I called, should I call it again and ask for the team manager then?

Whether you take it further is entirely up you to you, blue_monkey. Maybe it would help stop this kind of practice if lots more people complained about it...
