OpenOffice 3.0 release candidate 2 is now available. RC2 is very close to production quality so it will have few if any bugs still to fix prior to the final release within the next month.
The free OpenOffice 3.0 (and StarOffice 9) are a great improvement over the previous versions, but the biggest change is for Mac users who finally get a native Aqua version which will make NeoOffice redundant once it is released.
