I tend to agree with you kegg. Christenings are extremely religious ceremonies.
I especially don't think a lot of godparents take it seriously and I do admire those who refuse to do it because they are not religious and will not carry out the vows they would have to make in the ceremony.0 -
What about a Christening guest book? I bought one for my sons Christening from the Me To You website. I love reading the messages and wishes they have written for my son to read when he's older. Perhaps get the guests to fill it in 'on the quiet' so it's a surprise for the parents too?0

My husband is godfather to my neice and for her christening we bought her a snowglobe from past times with an angel in it, it sits above her bed to watch over her when she sleeps - she knows it from us - and the angel keeps her safe when we or her parents aren't around to look after.
She also got her first pair of doc martin boots painted pink with flowers on them from me - they also sit next to the snowglobe - a present from her cool auntie
I like the idea of a memory box we have one - and its full of alsorts from the day me and my husband met.0 -
How about a tooth box, and or a first curl box.
Mamas and Papas do some reasonably cheaply, and it would go nicely in the box you make.

Similar to the guest book but you could get a large (silver?)photo frame with a wide mount. You could ask guests to write a message on the mount and add a photo of the child. It could go on his bedroom wall and remind him on a daily basis when he's older who attended his special day. I prefer religious presents because they have some meaning to the event so a lift the flap bible was one of the best presents my daughter was given.0

When i got my lad christened, brought a hardback a5 plain paper book around £4, i backed it with blue handmade paper then wrote his name is silver paint. At the christening doo, i passed it round and everyone written a message on a new page. Its lovely to look at now, my son is 8 and loves looking through it as he cant remember the day.
Maybe its an idea you could do as well as a memory box.0 -
