Present for a girl aged 9-11

Morning all
We have one of those giving trees at work where we hand in presents for underprivilaged kids for Christmas.
I have been given the 9-11 year old girl catagory, spending between £10-£15.
As I do not have kids myself (and it was a while since I was one!) could some of you please give me an idea of a nice toy/game etc that would suit a girl of 9-11 years - not sure if they are past dolls etc. at that age!
Thanks for your help.

When my OH's daughter was 9-11 what she liked to do was to paint and draw. In fact she still does. It is important to remember that not all girls like dolls...OH's D wasn't into dolls at all.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

How about clear nail gloss, and a pale lip gloss, hair ornaments - jazzy knee length socks etc and maybe a small beanie baby or similar?
Plus nice chocolates - Celebrations or Heroes are popular among that age group."This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.0 -
If they are under priveleged maybe a small hamper full of things they may not have.
e.g. bar of nice chocolate, bit of make up, small item of costume jewellery, scarf and gloves set,
all these things things can be bought for less than the £15 limit. I think they would appreciate lots of little things instead of one thing.
We have lots of shops where I live where you can buy lots of good items but at cheap pricesI haven't got one!0 -
I'm sure you are aware but the gift should suit their personality. At 11 she will likely be fairly technologically aware so how about a nice little MP3 player for £12...http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/category.asp?cate=32 (it's the 64mb model) includes delivery.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

That is a good idea about the MP3 player, but if the child is an unpriviledged, they might not have a computer to download the music, a cassette type might be more appropriate.
My friend buys her daughter the stripy knee length socks, she loves make-up and bath smellies, fancy things to put in your hair, sweets and chocolates always go down well.0 -
what about the guiness book of records? Seems to be a book that all kids appreciate from 9 - 19 somehow!!??0

In my experience 9 to 11 year old girls generally like crafty things. You can buy kits for making and decorating a handbag etc in argos, woolworths etc. Hama bead kits and the lego clikits range are also very popular. A craft kit combined with girlie smellies or makeup would be perfect for most girls (though have to admit I was a bit of a tomboy myself at 11 and would have prefered a cricket bat)I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0
