Had a letter from RBS in response to my complaint. Sure enough the letter says, in so many words: "!!!!!! off. You signed the agreement, you therefore understood what you were doing."

They have not addressed my four complaints which were:

    1) It was never explained to me what PPI was and I was never given an eligibility check to see if PPI were necessary, which it wasn't.
    2) My loan forms were pre-filled in and had the PPI insurance automatically added. I was never told it was optional. Therefore I took this to mean if I wanted the loan I had to have the insurance.
    3) During a financial review, where my loan was discussed in addition to my self-employed status and business insurance against trading ceasement, I've was not informed the PPI insurance was not needed anymore. In fact I was told the opposite - always good to have extra insurance! Why would I need two sets of insurance??!!
    4) I was mis-sold the second loan I took out. I was phoned and offered a couple of extra grand to bump my loan from £3000 to £5000 and it would be extended a couple years from 3 to 5. Again, prefilled forms with insurance etc sent to me to sign. Now I realise a completely new loan for a further five years was taken out. My loan was never extended as promised over the phone.

Can someone post or PM a copy of a letter that they have sent after they've had an initial "!!!!!! off" to give me an idea of how I should phrase the next one please.

It happened in April 2004 - if they do still have telephone records, can I request copies of our original conversation to listen to?

I'd love to believe they were that organised but the last time I spoke to them they couldn't tell me what the APR on my loan was or find records of my loan agreement.

Somewhere in the shady bowels of RBS a dusty archive vault door creaks open....

ah so it was before insurance was regulated by the FSA

they might not have a copy of phone, but I'd doubt they'd give you a copy if they had

I'm awaiting a call from my local HSBC branch' Lending Officer to discuss my PPI as i believe it was mis-sold. I have no terms and conditions which relate to PPI, only a tick box on a separate sheet to say i agree to it. I had no meetings with HSBC to discuss my loan - i was sent the paperwork to sign (which was signed on my 18th birthday) so not sure how they assessed my needs for PPI. I have no idea what my PPI covers, i will keep this thread updated with what happens and if i need to use the letter on page 1 (thanks for that template!!!)

    EDIT/UPDATE:
Spoken to the lending officer at my local hsbc and explained the situation and she is looking into the claim i was mis sold the PPI and advised me to bring the letter into her rather than sending it to customer services for a faster response. She mentioned i could re do the loan without PPI but i really dont want to have to reapply so will see where the letter gets me first. Will send a copy to both her at the branch and cc a copy to HSBC Customer Service, complains dept.

    update
HSBC have refused my claim i was mis sold my PPI and have offered to adjust the amount of the loan and place it into a new loan with PPI. They are saying i signed a needs and demands recommendations form which i don't believe i have and also stated i received a booklet outlining what PPI covers which i didn't. I'm going to contact the branch via telephone requesting copies of all documents I've signed.

    Any advice is appreciated!

Bank are now sending me signed copies of everything to enable me to speak to the financial ombudsman.
  • Has anybody out there claimed back PPI from loans with Alliance & Leicester?

I wrote to them about 6 weeks ago and I have had two one-line letters just telling me that "They are looking into my complaint". I'm not sure what the outcome will be or when I will hear, but figured it was worth a try as there are several success stories here .........
