I sent a letter to Barclays asking them to refund the PPI (Payment Protection Insurance) as I never requested it when I applied online.
They sent me a long letter saying that I had the right to cancel it when I signed the contract etc within 30 day's. But I signed it on the knowledge that I never asked for it in the first place and wouldn't think it would be on the contract. I also needed the loan quickly!
They also said that I refused a partial refund previously to which I have never asked them about the PPI before!
Do I go back to them and still demand a full refund etc?
Thanks.0 -

Yeah! I would. If you read back through this thread, you'll see that this has happened to others a couple of times. So, I think it's worth a go. I think Old Iron Balls was in a similar situation, perhaps you could ask him?October make £10/day currently £11.020 -

Absolutely ! its worth a try.
Although your situation is slightly different as you applied online.
There was no face to face ‘selling’ from a Barclays employee etc
I take it the contracts and agreements etc were returned by post .
Were there any details of PPI on the contract you signed ?
If so Barcleys may have you over a barrel as you returned a signed contract agreeing to the t&c’s.
Its still worth a try though, at least to clear up the fact you have never asked for it to be cancelled before ?!
The partial refund sounds promising, maybe attack it from that angle ?
Must admit Id still be tempted to go the whole hog though. Full refund !
Your not satisfied with the response you received and your looking at taking your business elsewhere et etc
Reading back through this thread, patience and perseverance is the key.
Results show that if you keep on the pressure they eventually give in
Let us know how you get on. Good luck :beer:Debt at highest £16k+

Hello Everyone,
I have got two loans, one with Alliance & Leicester and a joint loan with my husband for Tesco Finance. At the time I/we took these loans out we thought that we had to take out PPI, but on further investigation and reading on here I don't think we need it. Do you think I ought to write to them cancelling this....?? Hopefully I will get a refund.....
Thanks very much

If you have read all of the documentation and believe (as I did with ours) that the product is of little use to you and that money would be better used on helping your immeadiate situation/repaying your debt quicker then yes, go for it! If you feel you do need some form of cover there are other companies that can offer the same product at a much lower cost. good luck0

sorry forgot to say, plus if you believe you were 'mis-sold' the cover then you must tell the lender this too, you may not get it all back but you can stop spending any more money on it if you cancel it altogether.0

Thanks very much for the info, I will send off letters to Alliance & Leicester and Tesco Finance today..... I don't know whether I have been missold it as I applied for both loans on the internet and not actually in person with anyone, but I certainly don't need it and intend to take out protection insurance elsewhere which will save me a fortune......Light bulb moment 18/03/06 Total Debt at light bulb moment approx £40k

No problem, I will do so....
This site is brilliant, in the last day I have learnt so much about how I can save money and reduce my debts, it's made me feel really positive....
Next task is to cancel PPI on credit cards and ask Halifax if I can transfer my 19.9% balance to their lowering rated flat rate balance of 5.9%, that's today's task (at lunchtime....)
Thanks again..... :-)Light bulb moment 18/03/06 Total Debt at light bulb moment approx £40k
