changing a 1 gang switch for a 2 gang switch

Hi Guys, Hope someone can help.

We have two lights in our lounge. They are both controlled off one single gang switch.

I have not had a look at the back of it to see what wires are there. But would it be possible to change it for a 2 gang switch without extra wireing. The flat was built about 1980.

  • probably not. take the switch off and have a look at the terminals. there should be two terminals one labeled C or common and the other should be labeled L1. ignore common .if there is two wires in L1 you will probably be able to do it. if there's only one wire in L1 your stuck with what you've got.

Look in the switch, if there is only one cable entering the switch box then the answer is definitely no.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
