I have had a similar experience with natwest on opening an account. My story (happily overall) is that I am not short of cash and opened a current account with regards to perhaps shifting my isa & and opening possible further savings accounts. This was done partly online but because this was problematic it was finnished in branch - (PENZANCE). When my first statement came through I was horrified to see advice note on future charges and was on the phone to my branch immediately (Please note I opened accounts with 5 other banks in town at the same time and only had (still having) problems with natwest), It took a week for them to find this out but Apparently I was put on the advantage blue package (ofcourse making me overdrawn as i hadnt yet deposited any money) without my knowledge (alledgedly done by myself online) I was told this could not be cancelled for 4 mths, but they were looking into it, I was reasured not to worry etc and even told charges would be cancelled or refunded later (so ofcourse I didnt bother to deposit any money still). To cut along story short I had to waste what seemed like a deliberately prolonged amount of time by being forced to go into branch (cash in hand) to try and sort this mess out, where a Stewart Boon lied to my face by denying that he said charges would be refunded. A Becky Baker (who opened my account and had been the main one handling my complaint) to'd and frowed between myself and the back room, In the end I had to deposit £100 to stop the roll over of maintenece charges and interest into several future months, also she cancelled the original unwanted advantgage blue account (or did she - more on this in a sec - do they receive commision?). Anyway all seemingly resolved, in the last month I have sent my letter to Natwest received a reply and promptly sent my second letter regarding bank charges. This aside today I was livid to open my natwest statement with advice note on further fee's!! I thought we had capped all this, I am absoloutely livid with natwest. I am awaiting a calll back from my local branch now. MY ADVICE IS AVOID NATWEST LIKE THE PLAGUE!
She didn't receive commission at all. Was the account actually opened in the branch or on the internet? The Advantage Blue account is one where an account opening pack is sent out. If the ADBLUE is cancelled within 14 days then no charges would be applicable, otherwise it is 6 months minimum, charges go out at the end of the following month similar to advantage gold, ie if it was opened in January it goes out at the end of february.
I suspect it was opened over the internet because the branch would have to have what is called a T Bar for advantage blue with your signature on it. If not then I would have written to Customer Relations Unit based on the issue of it being missold/opened in error and that the charges were therefore a result of this error. Otherwise you will get a response re OFT test case and you will have to wait for the conclusion to it.0 -
Thanks natweststaffmember vbmenu_register("postmenu_15773299", true); I have since spoken (through perceiverence and several calls made since my earlier posts) to a flustered sounding branch manager and it apparantly is being dealt with by the complaints department who are supposedly going to call me in the next few days (which is great as i'll be away, although they do have my mobile) I started the opening online but the system crashed or at least my laptop did. My second letter was more inline with the ad blue being misold/opened in error as my initial letter was merely trying to reclaim the ludicrous charges and my responce was re OFT, so i had to explain the root of it and dig that little no. out too.0

I did suspect it might have been an online application. I had seen a number of these things happening which is why I think the argument was bank error more than OFT charges so to speak. Glad to see that something is being done.0 -

Well i'm back from Scotland and i still havent heard from natwest - just joined about 10 anti natwest facebook groups, in my future comms with natwest i'll have to let them know more about myself financially, not being egotistic but right or wrong 'throwing your weight around' seems to work for those that do it 'he who shouts loudest' and all that, i actually find it a pugnatious attitude and am usually quite modest but it might help the people who are dealing with this (usually more receptive to status) although unfortunately I expect natwest will add me to their mailing list and i'll get all the usual junk from them too at this point.0 -
natweststaffmember vbmenu_register("postmenu_15833529", true); - had a letter from them yesterday; still looking into it, will keep you updated, and thanks for your advice. Maybe they will resolve this with no further input from me?! oh well theres always hope! I know its a relatively trivial amount of money and I can afford it more than the majority but the way they treated me, I was very unhappy about + 2 staff errors by two seperate staff members only made the situation worse (even if they did have the best intentions (rather than the brush off), anyway seems the complaints department arent giving me the brush off now so i'll wait and see, in the meantime i'll have to keep this ridiculous sudo profile up, incase i need it later..0
