Computer DVD Players

Options
Is it possible to change region's on a computer dvd player i.e. Windows media player, Power DVD etc. I was given a DR Who DVD set on region 1 and watched some on the computer. I have just tried Aliens region 2 (Birthday Present) and it says something about changing regions 5 times means I can't watch region 2, is there anyway around this? Or do I have to pay upwards of 33 Dollars to get a player for a computer that can do this?

Find out the make and model of your dvd player and then google for a region change/hack

As mentioned you can possibly make the drive region free, there is also the option of VLC player which can from what i've seen play any dvd as region free, it would seem regardless of if the drive is locked or not.

I currently use a pair of DVD drive (one R1, one R2) in my machine, and either DVDGenie and PowerDVD 7 (or earlier), or VLC player depending on what i'm doing.

Its not allowed on this forum to recommend the SlySoft AnyDVD or DVDIdle

If you actually did know the forum rules then you'd know that whereas filesharing is not allowed, any kind of DVD region hacking or unlocking is actually allowed.

I think he was actually trying to HELP.....if you see what he actually writes
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I guess you didn't read what I actually wrote either. I was pointing out he didn't need to be evasive about DVD unlocking because it isn't against the forum rules (although mentioning torrents etc is liable to get this thread deleted and I don't see how that helps the OP at all, DVD unlocking can be discussed without breaking forum rules).

Not sure that is the case, I just happen to have a Toshiba with a locked drive, and a US region dvd, and vlc doesn't seem to be able to play it either. It sees it, reads what it is, but won't play.

  • I have a similar problem - have a mix of region 1 and region 2 dvds and Dell CinePlayer on the laptop, but as I have changed the region setting x amount of times the setting is now locked to region 2  so I cannot watch region 1 dvds (The Wire) anymore. Any good free software out there or would it be better just to 'hack' Dell CinePlayer (just off to google this option now...)

    Much obliged.

  • Aah, after searching the forums and web it seems that Videolan might be a better alternative for watching my region 1 dvds? http://www.videolan.org/

I know I could use Windows Media Player but the quality is not great (compared to Dell Cineplayer)
