Help with printer

Options
Hi I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on the printer I have. It came as part of a package I got from PC world May 2007. The laptop is a Toshiba and have had no problems with that. The "free" printer is a Lexmark X3480 all in one, it is not the best printer you can get and does not get very good write ups. However I only print the odd bit of text and letter so its ok for me. I replaced the cartridge that came with the thing today and thats when things went wrong. I get a message on the front panel saying the cover is open when its not, if you put your hand inside at the back where the micro switch is you can get the printer to start. The printer does not print though and the paper jams on one side. I had problems when I first got it, the printer did not reconise the cartridge and PC world sent me a disk to fix it. I cannot afford to replace the printer so before i ring up the v expensive helpline can any one assist

Thanks for the advice, I wouldn't dream of doing that when it does not work. I'm an even poorer sod so back to old fashioned hand writing for me, as the library is closed when I get in from work.Regards

My Dad had one of those "cheap" Lexmarks for a year or so and we had loads of problems with it.

Twice we had original, branded new Lexmark cartridges that would not print properly on one colour (a different colour was faulty in each). In fairness, Lexmark UK's Helpdesk offered to replace them free - by which time I'd given it away (fully working again) on Freecycle. So it didn't work for me as I couldn't give them a valid serial number. But perhaps contacting Lexmark directly might work for you.

Get a Epson cheap to run if you use compatables. I have 3 in house and no issues at all with compatables. I have in house R240, R300 and Rx685 (printer/scanner) about £100 now

Thank you for your reply, I dont think they are the best of printers, no wonder they were free! Will give the lexmark helpline a try.
