I get incap but can I claim the right of Income support?

Hi guys I am disabled and get DLA and applied for Income Support and Incap but was given Incap as I was told that I will receive more with incap. (I dont work and am a Student)

My query arose last week when I had a wasps nest and asked my council if they could remove it, I was charged £40 but if I hap proof of Income S I could have got it for £10.
Also I can get free prescriptions etc with IncomeS but not with Incap.

Last week I wanted to enrol on a class and was told if I got IncomeS I could get the lessons for free, otherwise I had to pay.

So I want to know is their away to get the benifits attached with IncomeS?

I would be grateful if you guys could give me any advice as I can claim one or the other but not both and rather keep Incap as I get slightly more.

Thanks

Waqas

  • Are you claiming HB and CTC? As these are means tested they can often open doors that IB dosn't.

If you are entitled to IB rather than IS you cannot claim the right of IS. If you are on a low income it may be possible to get somethings at a reduced rate but you would need ask.
  • It depends on your DLA - if you are entitled to the highest rates, you would get a severe disability premium and you could apply for Income Support.

Make an appointment with DWP and go and discuss your options.

    thanks for the respone.

Well am a student and dont work so no income. I dont get any Health Benifits (if thats what HB is lol) and dont know what CTC means.

I get higher rate DLA but didnt know I can claim severe disability premium (sdp), I have never herd of that, I know of Sever Disability Allowance but dont know what exactly that is too lol.

No.ID if I was to get SDP and apply for IS, I take it I will lose IS.

    Thanks again guys

HB Housing Benefit (Now LHA Local Housing Allowance)
    CTC Council Tax Credit

I assume from the wasp nest comment that you rent your own flat.

(What level are you studying at?)

You need to be receiving middle/high care DLA and live alone or be treated as living alone to get SDP.

Living alone as in not living with your parents!

Are you saying that you pay the utilities for the whole household? Surely not.
