i have a 3 years old medion desktop with 512mb ram (DDR PC3200) and windows xp home.it is getting slow and i would like to add more memory and there are 3 free slots on the memory module.....my question is can i install a 1gb stick in one of the spaces to have a total of 1.5gb or does it have to be a matching stick of 512mb...any advice please

generally if you have two mismatched sticks - the slower one will bring down the performance of the other. so it may be better to swap the sticks to put the faster one in. You would more likely end up with the equivalent of 1GB anyway with both inDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

Need to read the manual or go to crucial for a memory scan. Its simple to upgrade but you need the correct type.
There is double/single sided/voltage/cas/edge connector detail to know first and max capacity for each slot. I would only use matching pairs and get at least 2Gb.0 -
thank you guys for the reply...i think i will put another 512 stick as what i do with my computer does not need large amount of ram...now i have another question please:
my computer crashed about 2 months ago so i reinstalled everything from scratch...the only problem is when i use power cinema software and try to watch TV or listen to radio i get the message (no tv tuner/or no radio tuner found)...there are definiltly tv and radio tuners on my cmputer as i have used them for nearly 3 years...i checked the device manager and i cant see any questionmarks anywhere..every thing else works fine...how do i look for the lost tuners?0 -
reinstall the tv/radio software from cd?0

Your explanation is confusing and incorrect.
Apart from misunderstanding the question, you are mixing the MHz rating with Density.0 -
It appears that your question has been partially misunderstood....
In answer to your question, on your machine there will not be any performance issues attached to matching a 1GB module with a 512MB module.
Your motherboard will accept 1GB modules, so if you can afford it splash out for the 1GB, as there will only be a 5 pounds cost saving over the 512MB module. Play.com 16.99 including delivery.0 -
If you go the Medion forum you can see what other Medion owners have done. The forum is divided by model(s) so you should be able to find a bunch of threads relating to this issue.
