Thank you again everyone, especially lexie55 for the inspiring idea of going to work at JL (tell you what though, 25% off is almost worth it)
My kids are only 2 and 4 so a bit more suited to going up t'chimney than working the shop floor at John Lewis, shame really.
I hadn't thought of credit card discounts, might have a shop around and see what I can get - 10% this type of purchase would be well worth having. That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0 -
Employees of the RBS group - NatWest, DirectLine etc can buy JL vouchers at 10% off too...0

you can buy john lewis vouvhers on ebay for around a 10% discount0

Do John Lewis still do price match? If they do you just need to provide proof you've seen the items cheaper elsewhere and they may knock a percentage off, have a look here:

It says to speak to someone in store.
Hope this helps and you get a great deal or some lovely furniture. In relation to pigsback.com you can register your debit/credit card and earn points at certain shops:

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions and help
I am assuming the range is John Lewis's own, hadn't even thought of shopping around but will check just in case
Ebay is also worth a look, though for those amounts I would be very paranoid about rip offs! That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0 -
Ask about a John Lewis store card. They are often available with a 10% saving on purchases for a short period after signing up. Don't forget to pay off in full when the statement arrives though!Middlers0

is the furniture actually made by john lewis? i know it sounds like a daft thing to say but we had a similar situation when buying a three piece suite. i ended up looking at who made it and then googled lots of other stockists and played a couple off of each other. also, depending on if you are paying cash or not makes a difference to what the store will be willing to offer. for the price you are paying you should be able to get some extras thrown in...we ended up with a discount, scotch guard protection, a few extra cushions, etc....it's not loads but when you are making a heavy investment you want a bit back! good luck xxHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Sorry to put a dampener on things but as an JL insider they do not offer discounts for cash or throw in freebies (very occasionally if it's a HUGE order or it is a clearance line the Department Manager may take an extra few pounds off, but this is very much the exception rather than the rule). We also only allow staff discount for genuine purchases by the employee (sorry not friends, family members or the cat!) I have known disciplinary procedures begin for flouting the rules.
Think the best way to get a better price is either through voucher schemes eg TSB/Lloyds Credit Card Points or when the Partnership Card is promoting the introductory offers. However you will also acrue points on the JL Partnership Card and get gift vouchers back periodically through the year. Pigsback is also another option although that only applies to online items.
Hope this helps0 -
Why dont you take out the credit card that martin is talking about. You can get 5% off every pound you spend up until xmas.:money:0
