Just lately, when I view google earth, instead of being directly over the chosen location, I appear to be at an angle and need to continually tipping myself back via the top circular nth/sth button. Is there any way a directly above view can be obtained like it used to be?.

Try using the mouse buttons and L<>R and roll the mouse. Keys pressed also change the view I think, a very flexible program for inputting movement0
