Student wanting broadband

Hi,
Just wanting some advice about the best broadband. Just moved into rented property and will probably be in for 2 years. The girls living in the house before us had broadband with talktalk so presumably they just stopped their account. Will we have to pay a line reconnection fee??? I'm fully aware we will have to sign up with BT but we don't need a phone, just broadband. My second question is that if after 1 year we want to stop paying for the phone, will we be able to keep our broadband with sky for example who have one of the cheapest I've seen (feel free to correct me!) and not pay for a phone line whilst still being connected???
Thanks, Luke

If you are not in a Virgin Media cabled area (if you are, you could go to them for your broadband), you will always need to have (and pay for) an active landline in order to have ADSL broadband.
Until the end of the month, BT, with its £29.99 offer, is cheapest for line installation/reconnection.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Have you considered a mobile broadband dongle. I have just bought one from '3'. £70 for the dongle plus 3 momths of 1gb download then £10 per month (1gb). Not perhaps the best of worlds but an alternative maybe worth exploring.0
