I am about to buy a new digital camera that can take SD or SDHC memory cards. My PC has an internal card reader that has an SD slot - will this also read SDHC cards? The literature which came with the computer (March 2007) doesn't say either way. Would it be a separate slot if it did take SDHC? Have asked the PC supplier, but no reply yet. Any ideas ?

If it doesn't explicitly say it takes SDHC cards, then it's doubtful it does.
It would be the same slot; SD and SDHC cards are the same size.0 -
It wouldn't be a separate slot but it may or may not work.
SDHC is a High Capacity SD card. Older readers (designed before SDHC) won't read the newer, higher capacity cards. It won't do any harm to try. You can always but a cheap usb reader if your internal one doesn't work

Dimension wise an SDHC card is the same size as an ordinary one so it would fit in the same slot, as to whether your card reader will read it, that is a different issue, I'd doubt it, but could be wrong.bristol_pilot wrote: »I am about to buy a new digital camera that can take SD or SDHC memory cards. I will buy the camera anyway, but the harm done would be buying an expensive high-capacity card which then doesn't work.0

Just buy a standard 1GB card if you don't want to run the risk. You will still get several hundred pics on the card.bristol_pilot wrote: »I will buy the camera anyway, but the harm done would be buying an expensive high-capacity card which then doesn't work.0 -
Depends a lot on the amount of photos and quality you shoot at, and whether you are prepared to buy another card reader, or would rather carry a couple of cards of normal capacity if necessary.bristol_pilot wrote: »I will buy the camera anyway, but the harm done would be buying an expensive high-capacity card which then doesn't work.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Thanks everyone. I'll stick with normal 2GB SD cards but take a few when I go on my longer travels.0
