Gas cost question

My parents are pensioners with British Gas.
I suggested to mom that she phone them and ask about the new social tariff.
She was told that as she's capped, she couldn't switch to the social tariff.
Is this right, as it seems wrong to me, she must be paying more than she has to?

If she is on the 2010 capped then she certainly shouldn't switch.

I think she is on that one, the 2010, I'm on the 2009 one.

Gosh haven't the years flown since the millienium night? I remember people thinking all the world's computers would crash :D

They were wrong to say she can't switch, but there are very good reasonson why some customers would be worse off, and those on 2010 would be.
However, keep an eye on it as that plan nears its end and look again.

The social tariff might not be the best one for your Mom (I take it you're a West Midlander, for the localised spelling used - good to see our language not dying out).

It might not be the best tariff for most people.

You could do comparisons via the sites checking the tariff they are on against others, taking note of any that haven't yet increased prices may soon do and you'll probably the current tariff is the best for them at the moment.

I check several times a week to ensure I'm on the best deal for us.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

Yes, thanks BexTech, a Brummy (Brummie :D ) by birth, mom still lives there but I now live in Burslem.
Elderly folk don't like change or confrontation, she still pays by bill, won't use DD.
