Hi MoneySavingSapphire,
We have an older thread on learning to knit that has some really useful links, so I have merged your thread with it. As always posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

Oh, how spooky! I had a knitting refresher session with a knitting relative 2 weeks ago! I haven't knitted since I was in the brownies & we made patchwork blankets to send to ethopia! (I'm now 31) I have picked up garter & learnt pearl stitch ok. Have made Spud a scarf & am now working on a bobble hat, although I keeping messing up the decreasing 'cos I'm trying to do it whilst watching TV!
It's totally addictive, so much so that hubby got jealous & went rummaging in the loft & produced his unfinished "work of art" which he started as a teenager when he was confined to bed during a long illness ; a 45 foot long & still growing scarf!!!!!!!!! I kid you not, it was 45 foot last time he measured it & it's bursting out of a bin bag!!! I didn't even know that he had it or could knit, now we're lined up on the sofa during big brother knitting away like something out of a very odd comedy sketch:rotfl:
(wish he'd knit something a bit more useful though! I guess that's the OS'er in me:rolleyes:)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

I know what you mean! It's worse for me. I knit jumpers for my Mum and Dad and my Mum is allegic to acrylic so I ALWAYS have to buy pure wool. It would be cheaper to go to M&S and buy one!!!!
(I ought to explain...people will say why don't my Mum knit them herself. She's disabled and can't and she loves the old fashioned home knitted stuff - hence why I do it...a labour of love)I consider myself to be very lucky. :j Apart from my mortgate, I am debt free. I do not own a credit card and I even have £400 saved in Premium Bonds. :A :grouphug:0 -

Apart from cross stitch and knitting (and I personally think knitting is easier! LOL) you could do rug making. The kits aren't too expensive and the hook tool thingy is cheap and will last you a lifetime. They really are lovely things to do on a winters evening!!!!I consider myself to be very lucky. :j Apart from my mortgate, I am debt free.
