Ah ha! Thank you, I will do that! I think chunky looks nicer anyway, and it may well take me 'til winter to get it done otherwise!!Returning MoneySaver, now furiously saving for a house deposit...0

think the yarn needle is for joining the knitted pieces together when you have finished, eg a cardigan or for threading the last bit of wool into your scarf when you have cast off0

I warn you though, knitting's not money saving these days, I spend a fortune on balls of wool which I then never get around to using!0

Twink - oooh, that would make sense! I won't need one for a scarf though then? Unless I wanted to add tassels??
gingercordial (great username, btw!) - lol, that will so be me, I waste so much already on crafty things, have all these great ideas and never get round to doing them! Our market's on today so will hopefully get some cheap ish wool there...Returning MoneySaver, now furiously saving for a house deposit...0 -
no you wouldnt need a yarn needle just try and poke the last bit of wool into the scarf, if you cut it off near the knitting it will unravel, my future dil gets my wool from the market0

There are 4 charity shops by me,
only one of them sells knitting needles and has loads of them for 10 p a pair,
2 of the charity shops sell balls of wool for 30 p each, sometimes Ive picked up 8 balls all the same . And dont forget to ask for knitting patterns too.0 -
I have been thinking about this for ages, something to keep me busy throughout the winter months ~ now I've read this I might buy some wool this weekend as I know what I want
Mmmmmm a lovely big woolly handmade scarf for the commute during the winter months.
You'll have to take a pic if you complete it Sapphire so that you can motivate me“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

I've been knitting a scarf from the fuffy wool that seems to be everywhere at the moment. Got mine for a pound a ball (50grams) from a local cheap and cheerful shop. Using 6mm needles, cast on 20 stitches and knit til the end. You need about three balls a scarf.
Good luck!0 -
Well I bought 3 balls of thick acrylic wooly stuff today from the market and some 6mm needles - they had 50g balls of fluffy stuff that's sooo soft on offer for 50p a ball but it looks really fine, would you only need 3 balls? Will be starting after I've made a bit of lunch so will chart progress...
