Good Luck with the learning to knit, lil moi!

I've been knitting for more years than I care to remember, but well remember my sense of pride with my first finished article - a little knitted rabbit toy.

Make sure that your first article is quite small - that way the achievement comes quickly.

Be careful with your sewing up afterwards - makes a world of difference if something is sewn-up neatly.

Leave a long end when you cast on (you use that thread afterwards for sewing up with!). Same when you cast off - another long end when you get to the final stitch and then use it to sew up with!

And very important - be careful how you wash your hand knitted item! It will have taken much time and effort in making - don't ruin it by washing too hot or wringing out, or over-spinning. I threatened my daughter after I found a badly-washed aran cardigan that I'd made for my granddaughter - the effort that had gone into that cardigan and she had washed it at 60degrees!!!
  • Good luck! My nana taught me when I was 5 and I still find it a really relaxing passtime.

Try this older thread - Learn to knit.

    Have fun!!
I used to knit and got back into it after a long break. I bought a 'knit your own scarf' kit by Patons for £10. It contained the wool, pattern and needles and was a great way to get back into it. It also knit up really quickly so there was a fantastic sense of achievement once I made it. It only took a couple of days - working on it in the evenings. And now I have a lovely scarf to give to my mum for christmas.

I knit from time to time - but I'm really better at crochet - they found out in work and now I'm just taking names for crochet lessons during our lunch breaks! :rotfl: So it looks like we will all be busy during the dark winter months.
    :j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

  • Have our DGS 1 + 2 here, Pulled a free Jean Greenhowe pattern off her site the other night. DGS and I have decided to knit - he hasn't a clue but he wants to learn! Knitting, I think, a dying craft.

  • cant help with sites but it seems you have plenty anyway. my mil taught me to knit when i was pregnant with dd1 and now helps me over msn when i get stuck, much to the amusement of the rest of the family, they watch us puzzling through patterns that look like gobbledygook on the screen and think its highly amusing, just finnished a hat for the little one, should really be doing one for the big one but ill start soon!
