Cheapest Eurotunnel crossing

Hi everyone, I want to go to Bruges for long weekend for my wife's birthday at the end of January. I've found great accommodation but the tunnel (she and the kids don't like the ferries) is very dear (£185 via them, best I can find £125). Any tips on special offers?

Many thanks

Russell

Two of us went to Paris recently for a weekend with Eurostar. I saved £25 by booking on the Eurostar French website and then picking up the tickets at Waterloo. A colleague said it may have been even cheaper if on Eurostar website, if you said your country was USA.

    Good luck

How long a weekend? Their 5-day short breaks can be had for £80 if you travel out of peak time - out before 6am back after 10pm.
  • Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, with our 4 kids it is better to pay the money than travel before 6 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

Guess I will just have to stump up the money...

I've been going back and forth for 40 years, and still prefer the ferry. Never tire of the slight sense of adventure. The Tunnel is a grossly overpriced subway with no facilities, except of course in the terminuses either end, not bad, and very convenient shopping with pre-pay and collection on return. Wife prefers Tunnel, but even she has to admit that the new Seafrance superferries are quite impressive. Really, you hardly know that you are on a ship, as far as rolling around is concerned. There are also shops, restaurants, things for the kids, all in all not bad, and it really doesn't take much longer. Tunnel loading/unloading can take a while.
I've no connection with any company, just someone who has tried them all.
By the way, watch out for food/drink prices in Bruges, and the horse drawn buggies are pretty dear also. By contrast, the boat trips seemed very good value. It's a pleasant place, you'll enjoy it, I think. Not an awful lot for the kids though, really. Chocolate, of course, but again, shop around.

    Cullin,
What I should have put on my posting was, go to the Eurostar website, on the left of the screen is "Country/Language", from this list I selected France. Naturally everything is in French from then on and payment is in Euros. There was no problem when I gave a UK address for payment details, but to save any confusion said I'd pick the tickets up at Waterloo rather than have them posted.

    Hope this helps
