White Gloss on New Carpet

Ok, I know I'm a complete twerp!! Basically, I have a small drop of white gloss on my newly fitted carpet. Is there any way I can get rid of this??? I tried blotting with a clean damp cloth, but that doesn't seem to have helped. I remember the carpet bumph saying that you could use bleach on it, but I am reluctant to do so. Do you think this would work? Any suggestions??

My OH is going to kill me :o

Many thanks

  dont put bleach on it:eek:  you'll take the colour completely out of your carpet and end up with an even bigger patch.

Have a look at the tin - is it water based gloss.

If it isnt the only way is to use turps to get it out

Turpentine is dyed to discourage users from drinking (the temptation being the high alcohol content) - if you have a light carpet this may stain so try white spirit instead.

or try an ice cube and try to pick it off after it's frozen, sounds silly i know

You can buy a small bottle of 'paint away'. I've paid nearly £10 a bottle through kleeneze before, and since seen it at my local savers chemist for £1.99. It doesn't smell, although you should use gloves. Rub in, leave & wash off. I got lots of dried cream emulsion & a little white gloss of a very very dark green carpet, & it's not at all noticable. Shame the carpet is still ugly!
  • Oil based replaced carpet. Really use white spirit and get into fibres, don't let it dry. Inform insurance co.
  • Thanks all,

I think I will try the white spirit first - I know there's a bottle of that in the garage! Do I juts rub it in with a dry cloth?

Apply the WS gently which should loosen the hardened paint, then (again gently) detach the hardened paint away from the carpet fibre. Rub the WS in vigorously and you will end up with a bigger splodge on your carpet!

Agree with above. Some modern carpets can be cleaned with bleach - yes, I was surprised too - but bleach won't shift dried paint.
If white spirit won't shift it you could try gently clipping off the fibres with paint on them with nail scissors if the paint is only on the tips of the fibres.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
