    Don't under stand this logic.

What don't you understand? What I'm saying is that if you're being treated in a country with an excellent health service, why on earth would you want to be repatriated to the care of the NHS?

The EU (ie EHIC) does NOT provide free treatment. It provides it on the same basis as residents of the country concerned. If they get it free, you do. If they pay, you do. If they have to pay and claim a complete or partial refund, you do.

You're absolutely right about this but the OP was talking about travel to Spain where your costs are fully covered.

Travel insurance including pre-existing medical problems does not cost a fortune, we travelled to the canaries in June there was five of us including two children with pre-existing problems, we got our insurance through the AAinsurance and it cost us £55.00 for the lot all included.

I wouldn't take the chance on not getting travel insurance, as people are stating that you will get free cover on the E111 or what ever its called these days, but no-one has mentioned the fact that travel insurance covers you to stay at your destination for longer if she is taken into hospital, for emergency flights home, not saying it ever will but in the case of death it will cover the person to be brought home( i know someone who didn't take insurance out, her husband died abroad and ahe had to pay £22,000 to bring his body home)

For the sake of £55.00 i wouldn't travel without it not where my kids are concerned.
  • What is EHIC+? Is it in any way connected to the EHIC scheme?

Edit: I've just found out the answer to the above. EHIC plus is a comercial "top up" policy to the EHIC. You make it sound as if someone can't get healthcare using an EHIC if they have a pre-existing condition, which is not the case!

I don't actually think I made it sound that way at all - your initial comment shows you'd picked up that there was a difference between EHIC and EHIC+ so I would assume others would as well
