BT home hub connection probs

Hi, my daughter's pc which has been part of a network has stopped 'finding' the internet. Although it is showing as connected Firefox won't load. any very basic help advice appreciated.

    Through the All Programs menu:

    1.Click Start.
    2.Point to All Programs.
    3.Point to Accessories.
    4.Point to System Tools.
    5.Click System Restore.
    6.Follow the instructions on the wizard.


    go back to a date when it worked , no files get lost by doing this

    is there firewall software on the PC , it could have been accidently blocked

    something like Nortons or McAfee

    is it only Firefox that is not working ?? does Internet Explorer work ??

    it's got AVG on it - not sure if it has been blocked ... how do I check?

    AVG is Antivirus , does Internet Explorer work ??

    may need to put file on a USB drive or CD

    it is Windows '98, not XP or Vista.

    At the moment it is showing as connected at 48.0Mpbs
