XL Holiday and credit card chargeback ?

Hi , A friend of mine booked to go to Sharm-El-Sheikh with XL but obviously has lost the holiday now they have gone bust . Her friend , who she was going with , paid for the holiday with their credit card . They have rung their CC and asked to do a chargeback but have been told they will only refund them the flight monies as the hotel can still provide them woth the service they paid for but I thought that's not right as the hotel can't as they can't get flights now this late notice . Does anyone know how they stand on this please ? Thanks

Was it a full package holiday or were the flight and hotel booked separately?

The card issuer is just trying it on !

It may be worth telling them that you will re-book your flights on BA (or someone else expensive) and that they will have to pay the additional cost (which they have to !) and that this will cost them a lot more than the hotel costs.

I think they booked with travel republic who , judging by other threads , said it is 2 separate bookings but they just booked with them and didn't think the flights and accommodation would be classed as 2 different things , they just thought it was a package . Thanks for your replies .

I am not sure you are going to be successful with the credit card issuer if your contract for the accommodation is with a separate company. The problem a lot of people seem to have is that when they booked it was never made clear that there were 2 halves of a holiday not a whole one, Travel Republic has changed its website since then but did you get two separate invoices, one from Freedom Flights (the part of XL selling flights through agents) and one from the accommodation supplier? If you did, I don't think a chargeback for the accommodation will work, you need to go back to TR and aske them what you are expected to do with half a holiday and why you were never told this could happen.
