Installing a TRV,
we are thinking of installing a TRV to one of our radiators
i just wanted to know how hard this will be and will it cause any problems, we are going to use the old pipes but just chane a valve on one side to a TRV, also will it fit ok with the pipe coming up.
we will be draining the system as it needs new inhibitor to be added.
i read somewhere that the pipe compression might cause a problem, i have no idea what that is.
thanks

Relatively straightforward, but you do need the right tools - you will need radiator boss keys, 1 to extract the old boss, another to insert the new, they are unlikely to be the same. You may need to replace a short length of pipe into the valve as the old compression nut will be held behind the compression olive. Plus you will need the right jointing materials for the boss and the olive. It is a heavy spend on tools for the job - but worth while if you are going to do more. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union

or you can carefully hacksaw thru the olive to release the nutYou may need to replace a short length of pipe into the valve as the old compression nut will be held behind the compression olive0 -
hmm, im assuming your talking about the pipe that goes to the valve from under the floor board.
replacing the pipe is a problem, is the olive sticking out and easy to hack saw through, if the pipe gets damaged then its a replace of the pipe.
once the olive is cut through then the nut will come out and ill be able to fit the new nut and olive.
might try that.
thanks, does anyone have any pics.0 -

Yes it is the pipe from under the floor. Generally the floorboard will lift out, the tongues will have been cut.
As Bob sys, you can cut the olive, use a junior hacksaw. Cut through the bulging part, but resist the temptation to cut right through at the edges, because you need a good surface on the pipe for the new olive to seal down. Once you have cut through enough to get a screwdriver into your cut slot, use it to twist. The old olive will then break open. Start with the plan that you must change the pipe, so you don't get caught out unable to finish the job. But if you do a neat job of cutting the olive, then it's a bonus. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
