Hi I am trying to network 3 pc's with the netgear DG834GT router I have 2 working ok through the wireless networking but when I try to connect the 3rd through a network cable, I get a error message of that 2 pc's are sharing the same IP address, see admin for details.

...well depending if your router is on a 192.168.x.x subnet.
The easiest way is to switch off any statically set ip addresses (ie in Windows) and let the router handle it all via DHCP.
To do this go onto each machine. Go to:
Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Network (or Wireless Connection depending on the machine) > Right-click > Properties
The in the following window look for "Internet Protocol TCP/IP". Double-click it. On the follow screen make sure both options are set to obtain automatically. That way the router will assign any addresses.
If you do need a static address, you can set this within the router by assigning a Mac address to an ip. I'll leave explaining that though unless you need it."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
The DG834GT can handle that.
You can tell it to reserve addresses for specific wired/wireless adapters by their mac address. So your machines will still have static ips. That way you don't need to specify anything within each machine as it's all handled by the router, which ideally it should be (single point of maintenance etc...)
It's under the "Local Network" menu item if I remember correctly."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I have a Netgear DG534G router, my PC is connected via an ethernet and laptop via wireless. Couldn't find "Local Network" as above post mentions but tried LAN IP in the menu. I entered the MAC addresses of both machines and assigned 192.168.0.2 for PC and 192.168.0.3 for laptop.
But upon rebooting the router and checking attached devices, the laptop has ~.3 but the HOME PC ends with ~.4
Why didn't it work?Must I do something on each computer too?
