fire service will accept him so long as he has a 3 month period before applying from having the treatment and the optician signs his forms.

My worry is that he'll have it and it wont work.

He's text me from work and said he'll rearrange the appointment so that I go with him, which is something, and he said we can talk about it all tonight so i think its slowly dawned on him that he's been a bit selfish and needs to consider all aspects... and thats what im here for! LOL

Well, I know 2 people who had it done, and both needed additional surgery because the initial procedure didnt work. I always fancied having it done, till I talked to them.

I guess if he does insist, he could look on Ebay. They always have short notice appointments on there at reduced cost ;)

Not sure whether this helps but you can have laser eye surgery using Tesco clubcard deals
    http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=584&bci=4294966502|Health%20%26%20Fitness
    Tesco: £1361.19, Vanquis: £2644.73, Very: £563.08, Next: £1636.95, M&S: £1049.92. As of 5th February 2024. Slava Ukraini
  • LOL at selling there services on ebay. And gettin clubcard points for having it done.

I cant have it done due to my particular problem and Laser surgery wont make any different. But I dont think I would risk it anyway. Maybe in 10 years time when those who have had it done, verify that its still ok, or you start reading about all the problems its caused.

  • How bad are his eyes? There is a chance that the procedure won't improve his vision enough anyway.

I have astigmatisms in both eyes and a prescription of 5.50/5.75, (life expectancy without contact lens is about 45 seconds) and they told me I'd still need reading glasses and use them for driving too.

Could be worth a telephone call first....?

    Hi All

    Thanks for your advice.
Unfortunately he's convinced he'll get a 0% deal. Basically he wants to do get laser eye surgery in order to apply for his dream job.
Now I dont wanna stand in the way of that at all, but i'd rather we save the cash, rather than increase the debt, or at least do it half and half!
    !
I had the same problem - OH bought the eye surgery said it would boost his self-esteem - funnily enough since it was external rather than internal it didn't have the desired effect! Tell him about the pain, explain the process in excrutiating detail. My OH couldn't work for a week to 2 weeks after as his job involves using a pc and the light from it was too bright. His focus is not as good as before ie corrected he had above 20:20 vision before, now he has less.... Initially he had lots of headaches, and his eyes would suddenly go fuzzy - hope that helps put him off for you!

    Whats the job? Modelling!!??!!

Since when has not wearing glasses made a *%$" of difference in getting a good job! Get real.

Well thats what I would say to him, but to you I say good luck on sorting it. I used to be just as bloody-minded about stuff 'I could afford' thats why I'm paying £400 per month to CCCS toclear £60,000 of debt! What does this 'dream job pay?....

There are quite a few jobs where you need perfect vision. Police in most places around the country outside of London, airline pilots, fighter pilots etc.

A few years ago a mate of mine who was in the RAF told me that if pilots had laser surgery done on their eyes then they were grounded. He may want to get confirmation that they'd still take him with laser-corrected sight.

You put these in your eyes at night and take them out during the day. they reshape your eyeball to correct your vision and it's reversible if you stop using your lenses.

Useless if you want to be an RAF pilot/in the fireservice but great if you just want improved vision but laser eye surgery is too scary. I think it's expensive though.
Trying to only spend money when I absolutely have to.
